Can anyone help a complete plumbing & heating dumbo?

Earlier this evening I heard a very low "pop" noise from my boiler but didn't think anything of it, then an hour or two later it has started making what can only be described as like a buzzer sound coming from it constantly when the heating came on through the timer setting. The boiler to be quite warm to the touch?? I turned the boiler off using the thermostat knob but left the power on and also turned the CH and Hot Water timer off, then 5 mins later the buzzer sound came again. When tried to turn boiler back on it doesn't kick in and the pilot light obviously isn't on. I have now switched the boiler off at the switch on the wall.

Any ideas on what the problem is, and is it gonna cost me a fortune to put it right???

Its very difficult to guess what your vague description of the sound might be.

Lets assume the fan has failed then you might be looking at a repair fee of say £90 and a replacement fan at £140 totalling £230.

Of course thats from a reasonable local firm!

Or you could call a major callout firm with a full page advert in Yellow Pages. They will spend an hour to find the fault, another hour to fetch the part and a third hour to fit and test it. Thats three hours at about £100 an hour ( and the rest ) plus the fan at £249 as they add a hefty markup.

Actually I would be much better off working for them but I might not get much job satisfaction as a rip off merchant.

I much dought you will get anyone paying those sort of prices these days to fit a fan and labour you would be lucky to get £150 these days especially with british gas check this out
