Hi, I would really appreciate some help with diagnosing a fault with my 12 year old boiler (Glow worm compact 80p). While having a shower the water intermediately changes from hot to cold and doesn't maintain a constant temperature. I called out a centrally heating boiler specialist who changed the heating temperature but informed me the boiler is on its way out due to scaling. He gave me a quote to replace the boiler for £1,800 being a Worcester 28 J Junior. Is this a fair price and is there anything else I can do to save some money. Thank you for help and advice?

Have you priced a new heat exchanger? They are near £350-400. His price is not too bad. Get a couple of extra quotes.
thanks. Is £1,800 a reasonable price for a new boiler. The problem seems to be this scaling. Do I need to replace the whole boiler or by replacing the heat exchanger resolve the issue. £400 verses £1,800 is more favourable. thanks for your advice as I have no knowledge of boiler systems?
