Hey up,

We moved into a new house 6 months ago which has a Glowworm Compact 80p boiler. Unfortunately we have no documentation to accompany the boiler which we believe was installed about 5 years ago.

The boiler has been fine all summer when we have required only hot water, however when we turned on the central heating the boiler seems to be tripping out (pilot light goes off)

The central heating works fine (all radiators heat to required temperature) for about an hour before the system trips off, although sometimes it trips off after 10 mins, other times a lot longer.

Can anyone shed light on what may be causing this. From reading around it could be some sort of overheat sensor which is faulty, or perhaps a stuck fan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a black plastic tool attached to boiler to downrate pcb potentiometer when on htg mode it will probably be set @ max (about 13mb i think) & should be approx 8mb but will need a pro to set it

Thanks for that, I have also read about this elsewhere.

Quick question (to satisfy curiosity more than anything), if this is a factory setting, how come this problem develops after the boiler has been working fine for several years?

System may be scaled or sludged which would explain random cut-outs.

Does the boiler ever 'kettle'?

Please explain what you mean by 'kettle'.

Sometimes the radiators emit a sort of clicking / rattling sound (only happens after the pilot has tripped off). The boiler doesn't make any untoward noises.

Its a metal pot used to heat water to make a cup of tea!

As it boils it can make a sizling noise. Boilers can make that noise too and we call that "kettling".
