Hi chaps/chappeses

Hoping for some help from someone far more knowledgeable than me, maybe with previous experience of this fault.

Glow worm Micron 70FF

This is more of a frustration/annoyance than anything and has been happening for years, the boiler has served me well for 24 years with nothing more than services and a new fan.

Fault: Non volatile lockout with no light sequence (apart from reset light)

Expected behaviour: Call for heat, fan runs for 10 secs, solenoid clicks open, ignition sparks, burner lights.

Fault behaviour: Call for heat, fan runs for 10 secs, no solenoid open, igniter sparks until lockout (as no gas)

Conditions: Only ever happens in the winter on the cold days that the boiler is on for prolonged periods, runs all summer just doing water with no issue and also when used for short periods of time.

Occasionally when you try and reset it just after it locks it will go through start sequence as above and lock again, the fault appears to be the solenoid not opening the valve under the conditions above, it can’t be at fault as it works flawlessly for 8 months of the year. Leave it 10 mins and it will reset and go until the next lockout.

Yes I know I should probably replace it but we’ve become friends over the 24 years.

Any suggestions?

It’s more out of curiosity, it’s been doing for probably 12 years + If somebody says, yes seen same thing and it was x and cost £500 then illl keep tolerating it, or if it’s y and you need to change your pump speed or open a valve I’ll try that. Ultimately if something else goes wrong with it I’ll have it replaced. It’s just frustrating and doesn’t do it for days,
