Golf Mk 5 electric window fault

The electric windows don't work off the main drivers control
But work individually on there own except for the drivers window won't go up or down..
Any ideas?
Do I need a complete main switch replacement?

MK5 Golf has CAN bus, so best to get the fault codes read and see what it points too.

Hopefully it will be the switch or drivers window control unit. Might be worth checking for broken wires in the drivers door wiring to the A pillar in the black rubber boot.

Any idea what garages charge to plug in to find the fault?

The smaller independent garages will tell you before they start. Then you know where you stand, but about £20-£40 depending on their overheads.
