Grain filler on worktop

I have oiled beech worktops which are fine apart from a small patch about 4'' square which always looks dull despite repeated oiling. I cannot really supply a photo as it is only visible when the sun is on it at a certain angle. It looks to me as though the grain is 'open' but as I am not an expert with wood I would appreciate any help. Would a grain filler help? Could I the oil over it? It is really frustrating as the worktop is fine otherwise.

Beech is a pretty featureless wood when it comes to grain appearance it doesn't have the deep open grain of oak say so I'm not so sure that grain filling would make an appreciable difference here.

Besides that you would have to remove all of the old oil prior to applying the grain filler.

Perhaps if you considered a surface coating such as Smith & Rodger's Worktop finish which is a urethane based coating (Satin) it would help to fill any rough areas of grain and give a smoother appearance also.

Another thing to consider is sanding off all the oil to the bare wood and sanding further to remove any rough grain back to an overall uniformness prior to re - oiling.
