Granite or slate?

Just about to order our new multi-fuel stove & hearth; which should I go for Black granite or black slate? Anyone got views on appearance advantages/disadvantages either way.

granite chips easy and shows whereas slate doesn't matter as much. Of course it really depends on which the mrs likes the look of best

Thanks for responding; I was hoping for a little more feedback but it seems not to be; only one other person has so far advised against Granite for the same reasons so on the basis of Granite 0 - Slate 2; looks like it's Slate then.

Slate.... probably can be polished with "blacklead" graphite paste looks nice when metal`s done with it.
