Granite Worktops - Fitting

Hi,

I've templated and sourced some granite worktops. I've tried to ask some local companies for a fiting service but no one is interested unless they have supplied the granite.

So I'm looking for some fitting advice. At the moment I have the worktops in situ however they are not dead level. I've tried adjusting the legs of the base units but i think where the units are screwed back to the walls it is pulling them back a little.

My questions are:

1. Should I put a layer of timber on top of the units to give extra strength and a dead level surface. I have read about this approach but not sure if it's necessary or overkill?

2. How do i secure the granite top down, is there an adhesive?

3. How or what is used to make joins, I think a compound is used?

The granite is 20mm thick.

Thanks in advance,

Rob.
