Grant oil combi with no hot water

You'll find the detailed information contained in the manufacturer's instructions far more useful than what's conveyable over a message board. Copy available on their site if yours is lost.

Looked on their site first and read the pdf instructions before bothering to register here , didnt help hence the post [/b]

There's a number of things it could be (flow switch, pump, PCB) - you may be better asking your oil supplier if they can recommend a service engineer if you don't fancy chancing one from the local paper...

To give you hot water from start-up, there is a fixed thermostat that heats up the heatstore. Is the heatstore getting hot? If it is, and you are not getting hot water when you turn on a tap, then it could be the diverter valve. To check, turn off the cold water supply to the boiler, turn on a hot tap, then go back to the boiler and turn on the cold water supply whilst watching for the pin to come out of the diverter valve beneath the microswitches and operate them. If it does, then the problem may be that the blending valve is not letting hot water through.
Hope this helps.

Oilhead - If this is a 6 year old model, the heatstore and CH jacket are one and the same. OP can still try what you say with CH off.

No heating this morning , checked the boiler and the red light for the pump was on but it had tripped out reset and its working but i'm giving up and calling an engineer

I am so fed up with this boiler ever since new i'm lucky to get a period of 9 months without it breaking down

It kept losing pressure = stuck pressure releif valve took numerous visits to diagnose

It kept sooting up = repeated engineers had fitted wrong injector

It kept losing pressure 2 = Expansion vessel faulty

Wouldnt fire = due to sooting

Wouldnt fire2 = due to the light sensitive diode being faulty

Its now 6 years old and broken again so new thread looms

I don't recommend the combi but would say:

Stuck PRV - Usually due to debris, not boiler fault.
Sooting due to wrong nozzle, not boiler fault.
Expansion vessel - Usually undersized installers are instructed to fit additional one to system.
Photocell won't work if constantly sooted.
Sooting = Incorrectly commissioned, not boiler fault.

Photocell was faulty not sooted i had to clean it a few times and the boiler was supplied with the wrong injector , expansion vessel had a leak in it and prv was also faulty

Having a reliable boiler is important to me this one is a POS and has been nothing but trouble and as usual depsite phoning 4 engineers to make an appointment to look at it its now almost 1pm and not a single phone call returned

I wish i could go gas :(

Nothing wrong with your Grant, just the muppets that you have had "looking after it" some of the faults you describe are stupid. the data plate on the left hand side on the inside of the boiler case clearly states the Nozzle size AND fuel pressure ! A PRV letting by, simple to diagnose, Sooting up - shouldn't happen if the burner is set with instruments!
So don't change your Boiler, change your Maintenance Company

All good advice. Well said.

Well still no return calls from the 3 engineers i called yesterday apart from one did call and said he could service it but couldnt touch the divertor valve as he wasnt a plumber ???

Its all ok saying there are muppets or bad engineers around here but this is all i have was even looking at doing the course myself but seems there is no entry unless you get taken on as an apprentice so that door seems closed

OP- Considering people here are not the ones letting you down and only giving free advice based on experience, you seem a little less than courteous in your replies. It might be part of the reason no-one's returning your calls.

Well considering my heating is broken I have no hot water and my original post hasnt been answered I'm not finding this to be the most useful site
