Woke up this morning to find the heating had been on, but had gone off and no hot water. Checked the boiler Nd found that it had overheated and waited for it to cool down and pressed reset button.

Now have hot water as usual, but no central heating. CH pump light is on. Boiler won't fire, thermostat is turned up etc.

Does it mean the CH pump has gone?

Make sure the pressure is at 1-5bar and undo the big screw in the middle of both pumps till water comes out the do them up.switch on boiler the check if pump is running by putting a screwdrivr on the pumps to listen, the hot water will heat first then ch.

as Oil Boffin says but that is 1.5 bar not 1-5 Bar simple typo but could imagine the OP trying to take it to 5 Bar

Thanks for the help. Got the pressure up to 1.5 and turned it back on, but the CH pump light is still on.

When you say put a screwdriver on the pump to check it, can you explain please?

if you have a large screwdriver place it against the CH pump preferably on the bleed screw in the middle of the pump and place the handle to your ear and it will amplify what is happening with the pump, you will be able to hear if the pump is turning freely or if it is struggling or if it screeches because it is air locked

Ah thanks Ian. So I've held the screwdriver against the pump and listened. There's no sound or movement at all. The pump is hot to touch.

Pump is seized get a small towel and place under the pump and remove the large screw head and locate a screwdriver in the shaft and see if you can shock it to start by manually turning it , dont worry if some water comes out that is normal, if you cant shock it into starting you will need to replace the pump
