If this is the wrong forum would a Mod kindly move it - thanks !

We have quite a long drive and it is in poor condition, having been covered quite thinly in a sort of limestone grit. Having it all tarmaced is going to cost an arm and a leg.... We would actually love to have a gravelled drive but it drops from the front gate down to the house by about 1:20. It is steepest from the front gate for a few yards and then levels off a bit. We worry that we might have a two foot pile of gravel at the front door after a while as rain washes the gravel down the slope!

We are wondering if there is some kind of gluey stuff which could be sprayed on the drive which would hold the first layer of gravel - subsequent layers might presumably be held in the little gaps in the first layer, particularly if the first layer was a bit coarser than the second layer. This might be just wishful thinking but opinions would be greatly appreciated !

"Bonded Gravel" (do a search) looks very smart.
