A grease mark has appeared on an inside wall in my lounge above my skirting board, I pulled the skirting board away from the wall to see behind it - it is dry with no sign of damp? however in the past few months it's grown sideways not up...
Could this be coming from the other side of the wall (hallway)? due to wall paper I cannot see anything on this side, should I remove the paper and skirting?

Is it possible to post a photo please? Does sound like damp but be better to have a gander.

Get a cheap moisture/damp meter from a DIY outlet about £ 10/20 this will give you an idea if it is a damp problem or something else
