years ago if you got a trade discount then the cost of replacing was down to you, so if you bought an alternator which proves faulty at trade price, then you could return it and get a replacement, but you would not get the labour needed to change it FOC only the alternator.

It does not matter how much you pay for something, your statutory rights are the same. Even if the product is given away, you still have statutory rights.

As the Wylex recall has shown, manufacturers will foot the bill to replace parts of an electrical installation that are defective.

After all, this is why manufacturers have product liability insurance.

Look at the ceiling in the lamps picture. It suggests he has run some cables under the joists in the kitchen.
