Could be poor connection on element. Bad connection on switch, the grill switch could also be on the back of the thermostat.
Intermitents are the difficult ones, there isnt much wiring to worry about but switch off & do a physical check first, if you have a meter so much the better.
SWITCH POWER OFF.
