Hi Guys,

Once trenches for waste and mains water pipes are dug who does the pipe work, a plumber or ground works people, i.e. as well as actually putting the pipes in the trench, who makes connections? I'm trying to figure out who to ask to quote for this stuff.

Can i have the waste and mains water in the same trench?

Thanks

Thanks, do plumbers generally arrange for ground works, as i also need strip foundations dug should i get the plumber to specify the works for the pipe trenches and then get groundworker to do the digging part. What's normal practice?

The work i'm planning is extension to one side of the building, and new waste and mains to the other side. So ideally i want to get all the digging done in one go.

Getting all the digging done in one hit is not always practical or sensible.

A lot depends upon the depth of the existing drains but it is often better to get the foundation trenches dug and the concrete in before messing about with the drains, so as to avoid messing the foundation trenches up.

This all needs planning by the builder and needs to be assessed once you have exposed the existing drains and how they will enter or exit the existing structure and above all their depth relative to the building foundations.

Thanks, I'm doing the planning of the whole thing on this one hence the original question.

The foundation and water/drainage sites are opposing sides of the building (10m apart) so i'm fairly sure it should be ok to do the digging all in one go.

The water and drain connections on the house end are new, and so will have new soil stack etc They will though be connecting to existing waterboard connections and sewer.

I'll try asking a plumber or two if they fancy digging both parts ;) If not groundworker it is.
