Ground works- taking everything back behind edging stone?

If you're doing a proper job with the grounds maintenance should all the dirt and weeds etc be strimmed and dug out if it goes over the edging stones?

For a neat job yes but a lot more work. Strimmers are great but the weeds grow back with a vengeance
