Hello,

Just noticed in a friends bathroom where I stayed for a few days that the internal corners around the shower area have been grouted, rather than using standard silicone sealant.

However, when you look close you can see over the top a clear sealant that extends about 5mm onto the tile on each side. When it's wet you can see the drips clinging to it.

Is this some kind of sealant tape? I have never seen such a thing before.

The grout is ivory, so I guess this was done in order to match the colour?

I assume there is still the posibility of hairline cracks in the grout due to natural movement, but this sealant tape stuff will stop water ingress?

I’ve never heard of sealant tape for a corner, but I’m not a professional.

In my bathroom I grouted the internal corners then, when fully dry, ran some clear silicon up it.

Is this not what’s happened at your friend’s place?

I think it must have been - the silicone must have been squashed really flat on the tiles to give the illusion of a tape.
