Grouting on old grout

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could give me some help. I thinking of regrouting the kitchen tiles, the tiles are really old and we want to keep them if possible.

The tiling has be done rustic (rubbish!) and they are not level and grout lines are terrible etc but the look actually goes well in the house (its a really old house) so I dont want to try to get all the tiles off.

I was wondering if I keyed the existing grout with sandpaper or similar and cleaned with sugar soap and then used some kind of bonding agent (?pva) and put a layer of new grout on top would it take or all just fall out?

I dont mind the work of removing the existing grout to a level below the tile a bit, but the thought of removing all the existing grout is too much - would rather forget the old tiles and retile!

As soon as any of you professional tilers have stopped laughing at my ideas any useful tips would be really appreciated.

You can regrout,you need to rake out the old grout as much as you can then brush out the loose debris.Grout as normal no need for pva.
