I am going to replace a ceiling light with GU10 down lighters.
I have been reading about the different types of bulbs.

We will probabaly go for a series of 9W CFLs.
They will be fitted in the ceiling space which contains some insulation ( rock wool or "dog fur")
There is no living space above the light, just void in a flat / pitched roof.
The CFL bulbs are deamed "cool running".

Now.... Do I need to cover the lights with fire hoods?

The reason I am asking is when we had a bathroom done next door the electrician fitted hoods over MR16 halogen downlighters. At that time fire rated downlighters were not very common.

No fire hoods required, but some air around the fitting is needed.

Either pull the insulation away or buy some

You must also consider part C of the building regulations.
To avoid excessive moisture transfer to roof voids.
This would be a common procedure if the room where the lights are, is a kitchen, bath/shower room where high humidity would be found. But even bedrooms can suffer from high humidity.
