In 1976, a "pub type" meal such as a pie and chips or a fish and chips meal generally cost between 30p and 50p. [1, 2]
While prices varied slightly, a typical chippy price board from 1976 reveals the following, according to: [1, 2, 3]
  • Fish and Chips: 21p – 50p
  • Pie and Chips: Likely around 30p-40p (based on chippy prices, with chicken around 30p-40p)
  • Portion of Chips: 8p – 10p
  • Pint of Beer: ~24p – 32p [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
Contextual Prices for 1976:

I'll go with 1974. They're putting the 'p' as well as the '£' which leads me to think it's not too long after decimalisation came in.
