We are considering buying a house that will need a new system fitting. It is a 4 bed 2 storey house with hallway, downstairs WC, kitchen and large lounge diner with 4 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

Could anyone indicate what sort of budget cost this would be please ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Phil

    See this piece of string……..

Seriously, more info needed even for a rough price. Full system install? Just a boiler change? Combi/heat only/system boiler? Vented/unvented? Sealed or open system? What water flow/pressure do you have? You’d really need someone round to calculate your needs.

Prices vary from what Mottie has said, to what make of boiler you want, to what installer/company you want. Is there any existing system in place? If so are you looking to upgrade? Are you planning on extending? You need to work out what type of system you want and what budget you have available. You’re best discussing this with an installer first, and then obtain at least 3 quotes.

Okay - Full system install with combi boiler . The house currently has a warm air heating system so we would be starting from scratch.

I will call a gas engineer.

    Thank you.

  7. Its uncommon in the UK, but my understanding is that warm air heating is actually a pretty good system. Have you looked into keeping it and using a heat pump to drive it?

Please explain how this would work

  10. An air-to-air heat pump (probably an air-source one, as retrofitting ground-source is a tad "disruptive") will produce warm air. The warm air is pumped around the heating ducts.
