Morning,
I have a McCullogh Mac80 sx
It had a fuel pipe issue of which i have now replaced the pipe with a new one.

I think its one of those things where you should of left it as it was.
I watched a few videos of how to set up the H L screw setting.
Whilst waiting for the 2 stroke oil to arrived i had some 2 stroke scooter oil.
I mixed this 50:1 but the strimmer smoked.
I then did the following.
Warm up engine & turn both screws in then out 1 1/4 turns.
H screw = hold trigger down & turn screw to the point of revs going up/down in either direction then putting screw in the middle point.
L screw = tickover turn screw & when revs drop off turn it back a touch and thats it.
Strimmer seems to run ok but still smokes.

Im now thinking maybe to much oil first off so i drain it out a mix a new oil & 50:1
This morning it was ha5rd to start it also does not like choke at all i would say as it then justs dies.
Got it started without choke but needed to keep pushing trigger.
Once warm it runs on its own but still smokes.

When i purchased it seller started it up & didnt smoke.

So my questions are.

Is the scooter oil making it smoke "eventhough image of strimmer on bottle"
50:1 mix is incorrect
Me adjusting H L incorrectly

Thanks

Just to cover my tracks,
I filled bottle to first red line then oil to second red line.

Your fuel mixing technique is fine.
I can't see what you have done wrong here, I do exactly the same.....for the High setting, I have the throttle on full and turn the screw until the engine starts 'four stroking' and then turn it back in until its revving well. For the Low setting, I set the tickover just on the high side (to keep the beast running) then do the same, finally resetting the idle screw once more.
Personally I wouldn't worry about the smoke, but if the engine starts without choke, then the mixture is too rich (H setting) so back it back in 1/8th turn and try again.

Hi
My Stihl oil arrived so I dumped the mix that was smoking in the tank.
Fuel / Stihl oil smokes a little but no where near the amount as with the scooter oil.

The lever for the choke is 12 o clock RUN then it rotates to 9 o clock CHOKE.
It won’t start if choke on. If I start it then put choke on it dies.

I will look st screwing in the H screw a little and see what happens with the choke
