I need to replace a h/w tank. The current one leaks at the bottom. It is on an old system, fully pumped, but no thermostat on the tank. There is an immersion heater and there is a dial (1-6) in the old Baxi bolier which I'm told regulates the water temp in the tank when the heating is on.
My question is this, can I replace like for like? That is put in a new tank without fitting a tank thermostat. I know part L regs state that a tank thermostat should be fitted, but is this necessary in this case?
Advice welcome.

All this legislation bo$$ocks really pi$$es me off!!

Although it is reccomended to upgrade controls, no one will know (or care) if you choose not to!!

Why should tradesmen be the unpaid police of this Part "L" fiasco!!

I take it you mean the cylinder, rather than the tank. Yes, you can just replace it. no you don’t have to install a thermostat if you don’t want to.
It is false economy though not to have adequate controls. They will make your system more convenient, faster response with heating and hot water, and save you hundreds of pounds. But if you belong to the followers of the principle: I have always done it this way”, by all means, just put one in without a stat.
