Halfords Are Complete Rubbish!

You may disagree all you like, but I am correct! Money does not have to have to be exchanged for a contract to be formed.

You have a contract in an auction when the autioner accepts your bid, but no money has benn exchanged at that point.

Good luck in trying to prove a reserve and collect order creates a valid sales contract. Contract law is complicated however in this case, it isn't :D

Auction is totally different because you intend to create a legal contract by bidding and agreeing a price so therefore agreeing the consideration. When you actually pay that consideration is generally irrelevant for contract law

AS you say I am sure you are correct......

Subject Store did not have product.

Dear Sir or Madam

BOSCH Silver Battery 096

Today I logged onto your website searching for a battery for my car.

Having decided to buy the above, I checked availability online and reserved one to pick up in Macclesfield. When I arrived, after much delay it transpired there was no battery in the shop.

It makes a complete mockery of your "reserve to buy" and stock control
systems if the computer cannot recognise when the stores have no products left to sell.

Not only was my journey wasted, but getting my car back on the road has
been delayed too.

Dear Mr Abbott

Thank you for your email. I would like to take this opportunity to
apologise in the delay of our response.

It is always disheartening to hear of situations where our customers
experience additional inconvenience and feel let down. I wish to assure
you that Halfords endeavours to maintain a good relationship and will always seek to use customer responses as a way of improving our customer service.

I have spoken to the Manager responsible for the store, who wishes for us
to pass on his apologies on this issue.

I appreciate you taking the time to highlight this problem as it is only
through feedback from our customers that we are able to identify areas
where we are falling short of our customers’ expectations and can redress
them.

Please accept our apologies once again.

Kind Regards,

Miss J Higgins

And my response to this:

Dear Miss Higgins

Thank you for your somewhat robotic response, albeit rather late.

It is most unfortunate that Halford's left hand does not know what its
right is doing. Since you "seek to use customer responses as a way of
improving...customer service", I thought the following may be of interest.

Had you had the product in store, an HSB 096, I would have purchased it that
day. But because you were out of stock, I was forced to shop elsewhere.Days
later, I found the exact same product nearby in Stockport, at a saving of
very nearly £30. More in fact, as your rival offered to fit the battery at
no extra cost.

I did wait before seeking this alternative supplier, in the vain hope that
you might be in touch with a generous offer to make available another
battery for me along with an offer to fit it free, but alas, it was not to
be.

This experience has made me think. I have since decided to stop using your
services in favour of local independent traders. Their opening hours may not
be quite as convenient as yours, but that is more than compensated for by
their lower prices and personal service.

Kind regards

Simon Abbott.
