We MOT and Repair, never have I seen anyone at our shop fail anything that wasn't a 100% fault.

Always been told if in doubt "pass and advise".

Incredible the garages fishing about for work on the back of dodgy MOT tests stay in business at all.

I'm glad there are still honest garages out there.
As it stands, I look after my cars and repair them myself.
When I won't be able to do that anymore I will probably change car every year.

It's true, some garages do given half a chance. Mine is due in the next 6 weeks. It always goes to the same guy, the same garage and in 25 years none of my cars have failed, apart from once when I pointed out the front wishbone, rear bushes were getting a bit soft, what did he think. He failed it, it was back there two days later after I had fitted new ones, for a pass. I usually give him a hand with the MOT anyway, last year he suggested the rear arms were beginning to rust and I ought to get some protection on, so I got that done at a specialist in July. The rest of the body was well protected at the factory, but no protection at all on the pressed steel rear arms. I had them replace the entire brake pipes at the back with new, whilst they were down there, as it involved dropping the fuel tank and the pipes were beginning to suffer.

I look after an old chaps motorcycle (he's late 80's and still riding!), been using us for 30+ years for supplying and servicing his bikes.

I was genuinely worried about where he gets his car serviced and MOT'd but it seems he's found a nice honest local garage to do all his car work.

My mate also booked the free MOT at Halfords. I checked it over yesterday and pronounced it will pass. Oops, just failed. Failed on 'incorrect spacing' on his number plates. He'd bought it for his wife last year for her 60th birthday and bought her some personalised plates Her initials, her age his initials and an X. Ie AB 60 CD X. ****! Oh well, it’s a free retest by the end of the next day for registration plates so he can get some plates made up today and run it back tomorrow.
