I've just fitted a new halogen floodlight outside and when I've turned it on and its been on for a minute or 2 smoke starts coming out from the unit.
The smoke is coming from the unit where the bulb is, and not from where the wiring is and appears to be possibly from the rubber seal around the glass.

Is this normal from a new unit ?? and if not, does anyone know what it is likely to be.

Cheers..

you didn't touch the lamp did you?

they do get very hot, switch it off and look inside something is burning

Its switched off until tomorrow now when it's light again.

It looks like the rubber gasket or seal around the glass has moved after I've fastened it up and some of the rubber from the seal is overlapping inside the lamp. I think this is what it is but will have to wait for light as it is up on a wall outside.

Didn't touch the bulb as far as i'm aware as it did say not to as the oil from your skin can damage it.

Thanks anyway Breezer.
