I have a set of halogen lights in the kitchen which have started playing up. It one of these affairs where the bulbs are suspended from the supply cables which are anchored to the wall one end and to the power transformer on the opposite wall at the other end. Recently the transformer has started making a crackling electrical arcing noise and the bulbs have been dimming and flickering. Any ideas? Is this something I can have a go at fixing or should I expect to be replacing them soon.

sounds like the transformer has developed a fault, check all connections (mains off)
