Hi guys, I have a similar sort of problem.
[split from old post by Mod ]

When I put the hot water on, I get hot water for a split second before its stone cold. The boiler shows an 'h' to say it should be giving me hot water and fires but doesn't actually give any hot water

The central heating is fine, no change there.

It may be coincidence, but I had to change an old bit of pipe due to a joint giving way and leaking water into the floor. This was a small section of cold water pipe to the shower. I did this on Monday, and the problem has started today so I don't think the two are connected but thought it worth a mention anyway

Boiler make / model - Halstead Ace HE 24 (gas)

Any help much appreciated

Cheers

Dave

Ah, a Halstead ACHE !
A flow switch turns the boiler on, then a motorised actuator moves the diverter valve.
So your FS is working, but either the Actuator isn't doing its thing or the DV is stuck. May be the DV gland has leaked water into the A.

I don't know if this adds anything to it, but after consulting a friend of a friend. I was advised to do a pipe holding trick.

Basically I help the central heating pipe, and the hot water pipe while the Mrs turned on the hot water. The central heating pipe got warm but hot water pipe stayed stone cold. He said it was the diverter valve (possibly). The question is where is it???

This is the boiler with just the front cover off:

I just snapped these quickly as I thought it might help

You mentioning a leak jogged the Mrs memory. Maybe 3-4 weeks ago, we were awoken by a dripping on a Saturday morning. I got up and it was coming from the bottom left hand edge of the boiler.
I took the covers off and had a look around, mopped up a small amount of water from inside but couldn't find an obvious source. Thought nothing of it until you mention it.
Question is would it have taken 3-4 weeks to show up as up until now we've had no problems what so ever with hot water temperature!

Best thing would be to download and print the manual from the Halstead site. Having said that it's has "stylized" pictures, which is silly!

OK, think from reading around your all spot on with the diverter valve, I have a place locally that has one in stock.

Next question is how do I get to it, and where exactly is it located. The user manual from Halstead is pretty useless in showing where it is

Thanks

Dave

It will probably be the motor on the Hydro block, its not like an ordinary divertor valve its built into the pump assembly but very easy to change, and doesn't involve any draining or disturbing of the gas pipework. Just make sure you have the power turned off.

That sounds promising.

Is there anyway of checking if its busted first, or does that come from a visual inspection??

Any chance of a 'how to'??

Check the flow switch first, then the motor resistance...

There is a small screw visible from the front, take this out and after you have pulled off the electrical connection the motor either drops out or pull it out, down the way. You can then get hot water if you turn off the isolators to the CH as the actuator is in the middle so water passes through the plate H/ex.
If you connect uop the socket to the motor it should position itself either in or out to push the actuator arm. If it doesn't move its at fault and a new motor required. If your not electrically minded it will show what is wrong without having to check resistance's. If its operating ok then I would go for the flow switch. Check the instuctions it will tell you how to change it.
