Halstead Finest (Wickes) 90 Safety lockout issue

No disrespect to anyone. I have professional advice saying I don't have a problem with this temporary solution (hey I'll get another microswitch and get it sorted).

Why is it that no-one is able so far to tell me what the problem with it is !! What danger? These things are failsafed to an extreme - just go back 20 years and this stuff didn't exist and very rarely caused a problem. I got quals in physics, electronics and loads of other stuff but don't try tell others their business.

I have not done that here at all! Why can't anyone tell me what potential problem I may have with this? I have found a solution at a time when I need heat! If it is a dangerous thing then I need to know and why! Trying to get this working has exhausted my finances totally. Why are the answers so totally nothing. As for 'Psychopath' well perhaps he should keep off the 8 pints he mentioned.

I've done nothing to disrespect anyone at all. All I've done is present the problem, the solution to date, and asked for advice! What is going on here? I sort of thought this was a help and advice forum, not a no-one-has-an-answer for you thing. I ask and all I get is blank.

I really do wonder if there is anyone who can tell me what the problem is or might be? Seems an answer is a bit elusive!

Can anyone say what is dangerous about this apart from breaking regs?
(due of course to H&S which will say if a safety precaution is in place it must be working)

Hows about an answer that says 'bypassing this' could cause 'this problem' and could be dangerous for 'this reason' and could 'do this'!

I not heard a thing from anyone about it - not a single thing. Only comment I've seen so far says 'dangerous' and 'I would lose licence'. NOT a THING about WHY!

I am beginning to suspect you don't have a good answer here. Just playing by the rulebook and not really knowing much about the dynamics of how these things really work.

To be a Gas engineer you have to go through a lot of training and hopefully a lot of experience. Pay a lot of fees. This does not qualify anyone to believe they are any better than anyone else. I'm not qualified and never said I am, however the advice I have had is from gas qualified people. All I've done here is ask a question, which no-one has been able to answer. Tells me something.

Thanks, but so far not many. Dave (upset and just trying to get to the danger issue).

No you don't.... No professional would have allowed you to do what you have done.

Modern boilers are safe because they have safety devices built into them to protect the end user from his neglect and stupidity. You have been very clever in removing a safety device so that device cannot now protect you from your cleverness.... Well done! Let's hope that you don't get any more clever

All I need is explanation of why this is dangerous.

No you don't. All you need is to know that you have put yourself and your neighbours at risk.... This is all you need to know.

The fact that no one will tell you is not because we don't know the potential problems, it is because we all know that once we answer your question, you will ask another equally pointless question.... The trouble with folk these days is that they think that they need to know when they just don't.

Corgi crouch please reread the last post I made and just give me an answer - what can b wrong with this and I'll b happy 2 let it go!

Sorry. Ok accepted. I appreciate the candid reply. Knowing what I do and the gas advisors I have I'm happy to leave it at that. I don't think you'll b reading about me in the papers. I certainly appreciate safety concerns but in this particular case I feel ok. I will replace the microswitch anyway - is easy - just gotta find one. I'll do it quickly! Last thing I wanted 2 do was pi** any1 off!

Would b nice if u just perhaps remembered that not all people are NOT savvy to tech stuff.

I learned a lot about this boiler over the last 4 months (of no heating) and as I have no money now I just wanted to get warm. I'm sure u can appreciate that. I have never done anything which has not been considered safe.

Kindest regards, Dave.

CorgiC - My girlfriend was 1st (I think) qualified female gas fitter (laura) in uk (many years ago) and a few friends have been (still are) doing it. Very few are able to decipher what goes on in modern boilers. I have a bit of advantage in knowing what a 'boot sequence' is, how it works, and how the gas fits in with it. I won't personally touch the gas side, but all of this has been down to the boot sequence and how switches react to find out what is wrong. I am a computer systems analyst and specialise in hardware. Modern boilers all run from a basic chip with a boot sequence.

I have excellent electronics, fluid dynamics, physics, maths, 'technology', networking (computers), satellite comms, radio comms, software test and loads of other stuff.

I really would like to ask why a simple answer cannot be given to why bypassing the air-proving-switch is a danger. This really should be a simple answer and require no follow-up questions at all. If the answer is given then there will be no follow-up. It would not be neccesary. Is a simple question and should be a simple answer, but what concerns me is that no-one is prepared to give that answer. You said you know. What is it? If you know then say it!

I see evasiveness all over this - all I've seen is 'slagging' off and not a single response of any import relevant to my query, derogatory or self-defending comments (as if I've been attacking?). I've seen someone who is obviously very respected in this community falling out of his pram and giving me s*** for no reason.

Perhaps if you can get it send me an email privately to tell me what problem I have (potentially) then I will understand. It is obvious that either NO ONE has a clue or
NO ONE wants to say. Both defeat the object of helping others and may be considered a kind of protectionism.

Kindest regards, Dave.
