i have a halstead SBX30 system boiler heating 12 rads and 1 megaflow cylinder in a mains pressure system, the problem is as follows and has been present since install(nearly 4 years ago!!). The pressure shown on the guage on the boiler will drop to nothing, and eventually(over the course of about a week) the boiler produces hideous noises and cuts out. During this 'process' several radiators produce loud bubbling banging noises and fill with air and a large puddle of water is expelled from the system from the drain/overflow outside(copper with open end not plastic one plumbed into waste pipe). The outcome of all this is that the system needs filling(via filling loop) about every week and the rads bleeding. Have had a new expansion vessel fitted(during warranty period) and countless flushes and filling with inhibitor as installer had suggested this as a cause! Have heard these particular boilers are known for probs???? My installer has since 'given up', my wife however hasn't, so any help is greatly appreciated!

can you top the system pressure up to 1 bar and not use the system at all for 2 days if pressure falls the system/bolier must be leaking, if it holds sounds like heat related prob

Does the noise/puddle happen just once a week(ish) or is it happening dailly and needing top up weekly?
Do you get the same problem when just the HW is on?
Do the rads get too hot?

Thanks for help TW Gas, appologies for delay! hard to keep tabs on puddle as drains onto flatroof. seems to start losing water as soon as ive topped up and vented rads and system is running again. after a couple of cycles of boiler running, house reaching temp, shutting off and boiler running again the noises start! topped up and vented rads just before post on fri, stat set at 21 and system on for couple hours am couple pm. lots of bubbling inrads when boiler starts already. roof wet where boiler drains to. needs topping at least weekly now CH on most days noises most days. Problem nowhere near as bad when just HW will run for weeks/months, only comes to light when my radiator drums come alive!! Rads dont seem too hot, running rad temp control on boiler at about 2/3. rads have TRVs so vary in temp.

Cheers GordonGas, Will try to do this if you think will help, very difficult this time of year, Mrs will 'freeze'! Would it need to be total 'off' or just CH?
