Hammock chair stand

I'm planning on making a stand for my hammock type chair.
Made out of ~10cm by ~5cm wood.
Using this as inspiration


Usually I over engineer things, but because of cost I wondered if I could use softwood rather than hardwood.
What I don't know is the difference in strength between the two.

Any comment appreciated.

Made out of ~10cm by ~5cm wood.

That size in a softwood, would be too weak and soon break.
