What is the best paint for handrail?

Eggshell or Stainwood?

Also should it be oil based or acrylic?

Many thanks for any input.

No "pro" replies to this one?

I recently repainted some steps (down from back door into kitchen) and used grey Ronseal floor paint. I thought I might as well try using the same for the handrail (metal, bent pipe, lots of old paint of various types). It seems to have worked OK but it is too early to know about long-term durability. This floor paint seems to be water based.

Any indoor wood I only ever use Sikkens BL Satura satin (pale purple tin). Not cheap but well worth the extra.
