I have a set of those sliding wardrobe doors in our bedroom of the type that is sold widely in B&Q, Wickes and various other home and Dept Stores under a variety of names. They are all fundamentally the same.

Mine have been in about 3-4 years and the top sliders have all started to fail because the little springy prongs that keep the slider locked into the top rail have become brittle and sheared off.

You can buy new parts (Stanley 1603Y), but they are £6 each, so I figured out a better solution. For £6 I bought a 10 pack of compression springs off ebay (20mm long, 6mm OD 0.5mm wire dia) which arrived from China in no time at all.

The outer piece needs no modification at all. The inner moving section needs to be removed and with little bit of work with a Stanley knife the stumpy lug can be trimmed down to hold the spring. Reassemble and you are back working in no time!

See pics.

Hope this helps
Mark
