Missus wants to put a couple of pictures on the wall, the location being directly above a power outlet. I know for a fact there's cable in the wall where the picture is going. Moving the location is a bit of a no-no as it'll upset the symmetry (there's other pictures on the wall already).

We don't have a picture rail or anything useful like that, and the pictures are (unfortunately) portrait, and not wide enough for a pair of fixings to span the affected area.

Tried some of those 3m sticky-back hooks (with the peel-away sticky-stuff) however they don't stick too well on the textured wallpaper we have got, and tend to drop off without warning, scaring the bejeezus out of anyone in the room.

Can anyone suggest another product?

ah yes, sorry.

Plaster over concrete render over blockwork. Walls are F-N hard, had to use masonry nails elsewhere on the wall as picture nails just bend.

They only need to penetrate the plaster. Or are you saying that's F hard and cannot be penetrated?

Plaster isn't that thick, and is pretty patchy -hence the textured wallpaper.

How does that help given there's power cable right behind it?

There won't be a power cable within the plaster depth will there? Or there shouldn't be. Or are you saying there is?

Those fixings only penetrate into the plaster about 10mm max.

Oh I see, multiple short nails. cables are chased in about 40-50mm ish, and covered with capping before filling.

might give those a go. cheers!

Simply use two picture hooks fitted to the wall, equidistant from your centre line and hang the picture in the tried and tested way on a wire or similar but strung over the two hooks...pinenot :)

Ok, nails, hanging wire etc. out, your next best bet would be double sided pads made for just such occasions. I would mark the position of each corner, come in 1/4" from these and cut the size of the pads out of the blown paper so they can be stuck straight to the walls below. Or you could cut a bit of wood the size of the pads and about 6" long, strike this with a hammer where the pads will go to flatten the paper. Struck smartly this should be invisible...pinenot :)
