Hi all,

My mum lives in an ex council flat which has concrete (including the stones) interior walls. She wants to hang a wall bracket to hold a 32" TV\DVD combo.

I've tried drilling into this type of wall before and given up after ruining 3 drill bits after about 1/2 inch progress. Can it be done? If so what should I use?

Thanks.

A normal hammer action drill shouldn't have many problems with this, use a slow RPM and a quality masonry bit and you should get there.
If all fails, hire a SDS drill plus bits from a local hire outlet.
John :)

For DIY use, a £50 SDS+ drill should last for several years, mine has! At this sort of price is it worth hiring?

Thanks for your replies guys but I'm not sure that will do the trick. I'm talking about the stuff with the pebbles mixed in.
I've looked on you tube and all the videos for concrete show just this grey, uniform, cement looking stuff. Our stuff is whiteish with actual stones embedded. Will an SDS go thorough this? What type of bit should we use.

Thanks again.

Yes you need sds, will drill like it was butter, standard drill will not touch it, melted a few bits trying with my in-laws ex property.

Half decent SDS drill should go through any concrete based building material mate

OK brilliant, thanks again guys, I think I'll hire rather than buy, unless the difference is minimal.

I've also melted a few bits with a normal hammer drill, that's why I was skeptical but I'll take your word and try with an SDS.

Thanks again.
