Trying to figure out the make up of this plasterboarding round the fire place. Drilled a hole on the left and enlarged with spade bit. Clearly plasterboard on this side and cavity behind, when i stick my finger in I can feel the chimney breast behind. Also hollow sounding when knocked. Did the same on the right but never got the characteristic pop of reaching the cavity with the drill bit. I never felt that I reached the cavity and when I enlarged it with the spade bit it looks like its just really thick plaster. Can't see any brick or block work or plasterboard (see second photo)

.

Can anyone identify what's going on here?

I was looking to hang the beam using plasterboard fixings like gripits, can do thie on the left but can't do this on the right side. Not sure if I can use a rawlplug if the wall on the right isn't solid enough..

Bit stuck as to what to do and would appreciate some help.

Use some resin and threaded rod.

Blow all the dust out first.

Nozzle

Thanks mate, I guess that might have to be the option for the right side. Beam has key hole fixings on the back but I guess I can leave the left side as is and drill out the right to accommodate the threaded rod.
