Hanging roof joists

Hello, is this an acceptable method of hanging joists? They are 200mm. Thanks.

There will be a plethora of Celotex (probably) added to the joist bottom so I'm guessing all will be levelled out.

I want to talk about the standard of your trimming. We'll start by discussing putting the trimmer in perpendicular to the rafters and then putting in a filler timber on an angle.

The doubled-up rafter either side of the Velux is doing the structural work in terms of the section of roof that remains between them. For arguments sake, the amount of joist remaining above the Velux is a short span and could have been done in say 4"x2" to collect the roof battens.

We added a 2" x 2" thickening batten to the bottom of the angled trimmer to deal with fixing the Celotex and collect the splay cut on the joist.

I'm feeling better now. I still don't think it's the best way of doing that trimmer, but I suppose it's a way.

BTW, why is only the top trimmer / top edge of opening on an angle like that?

The bottom is on an angle also but less so.
I actually measure the Velux plasterboard exit angles, top and bottom (they are both splayed) and incorporate this into the trimmers. All about maximum light admittance.

Deny a customer light and they are miserable. Give a customer light and they are elated. Human emotional management.

From looking at the images of your work and having read quite a few of your words....I would say that you do very good work and are passionate about the service you give to clients....but what the f do I know?

I assume the op is asking about the wall connection.

My only input is our architect drew hangers everywhere in our build. The builder then built the joists into the wall and was told that wasn't approved, then he asked if he could do what you've had done (bolt the beam to the wall and attach to that) but I'm not sure whether with hangers or not.

Haven't had an answer about this from the SE yet, but I'll let you know what the result is.

To the op its just badly thought out the splayed trimmer needs
to be larger timber maybe 250mm
