Hi,
I would like to paint my floorboards black in my lounge. Can anyone give me advice on the preparation needed and how to make sure they will be hard wearing afterwards as I have three dogs. It is also the main walk through from the front of the house to the back, so basically a high traffic area.

Thanks

Are they Bare wood? are they all curled up? or flat and tight (tongue & grooves no gaps?) Punch in any nails coat up boards with an ebony woodstain/ wood dye. let it dry,Then several coats of clear varnish. There are loads of waterbased varnishes whichwill do, they will all wear eventually. Otherwise the creme del a crem would be something like Sadolin PV67 a two part pack which dries like glass in half hour and takes all wear.

Dont put this stuff on normal polyurathene varnish without testing.

Of course the boards should be clean etc.

Good luck.
