I was chatting to a friend today... He wants to move his gas fired pizza oven next to his shiplap shed.

He asked if Hardi board screwed to the external face of the shed would suffice.

I told him that I don't know if it is fire rated and suitable for exterior use, and that I would defer to others here.

The conversation was brief, I was working up scaffolding next door, and accordingly I cannot provide a more detailed description.

I will however seem him in the pub later today.

But Hardiebacker looks minging; fire rated decorative cement cladding is a thing..

External grade Hardie backer looks nothing like the internal stuff we use for e.g. Tiling and bathroom walls. It comes in a Woodgrain finish and a choice of colours.

Thanks for all the replies.

Today he picked up a (generic) cement board and has just fitted it.
