Is it normal to be a harassed by a company for a new boiler ?

the 2 guys that diagnosed my issue charged me £65 and it was obvious they wanted me to buy a new boiler and suggested that i talk to their finance company at a cost of £2200 for replacement ok so i agreed see what the crack is, but since i've got hold of someone who will install for a lot cheaper i've told their finance people that i'm going to leave it, i've had 5 6 phone calls since the boiler was diagnosed last friday and 4 5 texts off these people.

Phone call today went like this.

engineer :- i've heard off the finance lady you don't want a boiler
me:- i'm going on holiday so not at the moment
engineer:- so you going to leave it broken THEN
me:- yes
engineer:- ok just checking

1. In case someone tells me i'm in the wrong, if said person diagnosed problem and i don't get back to them then it should be assumed that their service is not required and left at that.

2. It's my house and if i want to leave it broken i will do.

surely not normal behaviour is it ? i won't mention the company but it is a local one.

Welcome to the world of sales, but they certainly should stop after you have told them you are no longer interested. But make sure you have told them that. A lot of people are scared to say no and sometimes try and use excuses which the sales people often try to get around or think they can still get a sale at some point. On the other hand, some might be a bit miffed that a company hasn't been in touch to see if there is anything else they can do etc...

But yeah this kind of practice happens everywhere from mobile phone contracts, car lease, insurance, PPI claims, those accidents that we all had and forgotten about. This even happens online in those ads you see. Visit amazon or some online shop and notice how many ads you see for that item etc.. again they think your interested in an item and will then follow you and harass you with ads to encourage you to buy it (well unless you have an ad blocker)

EDIT: And in your case you mentioned being on holiday so not at the moment, that still gives them hope that you might be interested at a later date.

Just give us a clue to where you are in the country. County not needed;)

If they contact you again, and if you feel comfortable to do so, tell them that you are a bankrupt. This should put an end to their determination to sign you up for a credit agreement.

Just a thought.

write to them (signed for delivery, post away from your home address) telling them you have chosen an alternative installer.you have no contract with them and kindly request they do not harass you with phone calls ,sms, email or visit. This works.

The boiler firm is a company that relies upon sales / repairs for their livelihood. Most big companies will follow up a sales visit. They are different to a one man band who only needs enough work (oddly enough) for one man, and is ran by one man who is not normally trained in sales. They should not be abusive or difficult, but it extraordinarily naive to expect a non response to be taken as a final (non) answer. Salesmen are not paid to accept a vague no for an answer. The engineer could argue that his call was required as it may not have been clear as to whether the boiler as well as the finance was not required.

The OP, in his own words, he still not said "NO": he said he was "going on holiday, and will leave it for the moment". Why did you not just say you have got a better price, so will be sourcing elsewhere?

Be sure to expect a follow up call for after your "holiday"

@the OP. If you cannot say no don't ever buy anything from Safe Style or those people that install solar panels, Green sombody or other. Even after ringing them on at least 4 occasions and getting annoyed at them, both of these companies insist on ringing me 4 or 5 times a month. Both their numbers are blocked but my phone does tell me that they have tried to ring.

They offered me this Vaillant Pure (no model name presumably the cheapest), with a filter on your system for protection in future, the radiators flushed out, new wireless room thermostat/timer including labour £2200.

I doubt they would have done any flushing probably would have just fitted it and gone.
