i seem to have missed all this, but has gas gone from DIYnot public forums? I persoanlly don't mind because i won't touch gas.. but was it once on here as a DIY thing?

Quite a bit of diy gas advice used to be available in plumbing and heating, until admin realised it wasn't very wise to let the likes of joe90 see it.
So they opened a private forum for gas fitters to share info amongst themselves. Which joe isn't very happy about, which is presumably why he is currently making a nuisance of himself slagging off gas guys and posting spurious threads under false ids on the plumbing forum.

But why would they need to hide the gas information away from us menials.
I know some would say that gas is not DIY but to be really honest DIYnot is not really totally a DIY website.
Surely it should be up to the individual gas engineer to decide whether a valid gas question are worthy of an answer.
Let say if I was to ask, just out of sheer interest "what the pressure drop along a domestic pipeline at periods of maximum demand should be?"
Why would that not be worthy of answer?

Shouldn't there be a Part P electrical forum too then?

Let say if I was to ask, just out of sheer interest
Why would it be of interest ? Apart from you wanting to tamper.
Two reasons:
I am going to finish off my level 2 qualification in plumbing and the next progression after that would be moving on to the gas.
And when I do have my gas services looked at, whether it be in my own home or on projects I am managing, I am a very inquisitive and like to ask question. It would be good to know the answers being offered back where not male cow poo!

I personally do a lot of electrical work and when clients/customers ask me technical questions, I am only to happy to answer them. (providing I know the answer that is :!:)
If really wanted to do DIY gas, there are lots of means of finding out how to go about it. So don't see what the big secret is? with regards to DIYnot hiding it away.

Just playing Devil's advocate here, is it wise for some members to be handing out advice in the car sections on how to repair brakes, suspension, tyres etc?
Maybe members should be made to prove their credentials in the car sections?

In 'Settings' 'Advanced Settings' you have the option of whether you can see the Gas Forum.
This does not give you access to it, only whether you can see the heading.

That kind of defeats the object of the forum though doesn't it.

That's exactly my point.
