Hi,

I have a Bosch Worcester boiler. All works as expected, apart from:

Every night, around midnight, it fires up for about 5 minutes, regardless of whether the HW or CH is on.

Is this supposed to happen, and if so - why?

If it ain't supposed to happen - what might be wrong?

Thanks for any advice

Jim

It will be an anti sieze protection feature for your moving bits in the boiler.
Have a shuftie in the manual. It should mention it there.

if it is a newish boiler, it is normal. if it is old, you have a poltergeist

Thanks for responses.
Boiler is in kitchen, so don't think it's a thermostat thing.
Think the boiler is pretty new, maybe 5 or 6 years old? It came with the house so not exactly sure! But it sounds as though the supernatural can be ruled out, which is a relief after our last house

Model is Danesmoor 20/25, manuf. 2001

Wilhelm - don't think it's a valve - they're far enough away from the boiler to make it impossible to mistake where the noise is coming from. It's definitely the boiler that fires up. Unless I don't understand what you mean?

Cheers

J

Edit: I've just done some more investigatin' and one of the MOT valves is humming. Could this be causing the boiler to fire up? If so, how/why? and what can I do about it?

Thanks

J

I'll have to open up the hatch to check its temperature. Are you saying it should never be hot, or that it should be hot only at certain times?

But basically, if the valve is humming when HW and CH is off, thats A Bad Thing?

Thanks
