Have I done anything I shouldn't with the brick?

We recently had a couple of outdoor stairs repaired but some kids wrote on it. I went and took a brick and smoothed out the mess they had made. This was about 2 hours after the cement or concrete ( I don't know what it was) was poured on.

Have I done anything I shouldn't with the brick?

a troweled surface will repel surface water quicker than a rough surface. so the rough surface will be more vulnerable to frost than the smooth.

but the rough surface will give the best foot purchase. more grip.
