I dont mean glossing or satin over bare plaster

I am talking about oil based satin , eggshell or even gloss on top of a plaster wall , several years old , painted with a mist coat and several coats of matt emulsion ?

I suppose putting a barrier alkali primer followed by an adhesive primer might be a precaution but maybe not needed

A gloss or eggshell finish on a plaster wall would not be my choice but I will asked recently to do gloss or satin on a kids play room wall .....suggested eggshell but they seemed keen on gloss

I would do it the same as a wooden base. Sand down then prime and apply oil based gloss or whatever
