Hi,
Can anyone help PLEASE?? I have had three people out now to sort out my overflowing header tank. The first said the whole system needed replacing. The second said the cylinder tank and pump needed replacing. The third came out today and said the pump was blocked. Sorted out pump and overflow stopped for about two hours. Any one got any ideas on who is right. I have hot water and heating. Oh yeah and a drippin goverflow.

bit more info won't go a miss.

is the water hot/warm ?
i take it it's the small f/e tank ?
is it filling from the ball valve or the vent pipe or the feed pipe ?
have you tried lowering the speed of the pump ?
is it doing it all the time or only when ch on etc ?

What is the depth of the water in the tank when the system is cold?

It should not be more than an inch or two above the outlet at the bottom. Provided the ball valve opens before the level reaches the bottom outlet, that's OK. It means air will not enter the system via the feed pipe.

How high is the top of the loop in the vent pipe above the water level when the system is hot?

It should be a minimum of 450mm.

The water is hot and it is doing it all the time. If I run the hot water for a while the over flow stops and then starts again. The pipe that goes up to the tank is hot to touch as well and I was told that it should be cold.

Ballcock has been changed.

I am a widow with a very young child and I feel as if I am being taken advantage of.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

if you run the hot water it stops sounds like your talking about your large tank (cws).

i would say you have got cold mains backflowing to hot gravity from a mixer tap.

shut your mains stopcock, it should stop.

I know that I may seem a bit thick, but I know nothing about plumbing, heating etc. Do I drain the system down or do I just turn the mains stopcock off and then straight back on?

yes it is continually. unless i run the hot water for a while and when I stop this it overflows again after about 1 hour.

shut the stopcock and run the hot water for about a min and then the overflow should stop until you reopen the main stopcock again.

it'll get you through the night without the overflow running.

Stopcock off, Hot water run. took about five mins to stop overflow. Thanx alot
