Heat protection from shaver socket transformer

Do shaver socket transformers generate much heat?

Where I have fitted one, the cable enters the back box via the top, and so fouls the transformer as its right at the top. The cables do fit in (2x T+E), but I am concerned that with them touching the transformer they will eventually melt / brittle and fail.

Is this likely, or do the transformers not get hot?

If so, where can I obtain cable heat sheath suitable for 1mm T+E?

What size box did you put in? A 47mm box should leave ample room for the cables and transformer.

If you're concerned, just get some sleeving from here, it's a little big, but no harm

When used to power a shaver they barely get warm. The short duration of use and the mass of the metal in the transformer means the designed rise in temperature is small.

When used for prolonged periods to charge items such as electric toothbrushes they are likely to get a bit warmer.

Most good quality items have thermal cutouts that switch the device off if the transformer becomes too warm.

The above does not necessarily apply to low cost items bought from dubious sources.

The socket I used is this one:- https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/RDP17.html branded as Knightsbridge. It was cheap, but as it was from TLC I trusted it.

I used a 47mm box, but the transformer is right at the top of the plate pretty much, hence the issue. If the cable was fed from the bottom it would have been fine!

Sounds like probably nothing to worry about then?
 
Never had a cable melt on me behind a shaver point yet. Knightsbridge are a budget, but reasonable budget, range.

IIRC they do run all of the time. Premium brands, like MK, only have power to the primary of the TRANSFORMER when something is plugged in.
