Heat pump installation costs

Heat pumps are ridiculously expensive. They are basically a fridge compressor in reverse in a cabinet with a circuit board.

The grant should cover the cost plus install.

When/if grants go away, no-one is going to want to buy these.

Still not a legal requirement for new builds, which is where the focus should be.

They will be a legal requirement in most new builds from 2018. I agree, it’s expensive, no-one would buy one without the grant, and the grant costs us all £7,500 which could better be used fighting poverty, installing solar and wind farms, improving the NHS etc. The people who buy these are the rich and the middle classes. 50,000 a year at present, it’s a drop in the ocean.

A chap visited today from Adlår. The cyclinder won’t go in the old cylinder cupboard, it’s too wide, and it needs to be vented to the outside. So it would go in the spare bedroom or the garage. They say it’s best to upgrade the radiators oneself i.e. hire a plumber, it’s cheaper. They aim for a water temperature of 50 C.

At the moment i am not convinced on heat pumps. 1, they will take a long time to recover costs considering the out lay. I think fitting good insulation is an important start. You also mention the hot water. I run my system at 50c on the hot water & it seems to cope with me & 3 lodgers & a 220lt tank. But i have read a few times that i should often run it up to 60c as there is a few bugs that will survive under this temp & one is legionella.
At the moment i spend around £7.50 per month on off peak electric to heat my 220lt tank & its never gone cold.

No I didn’t. I followed your original advice, and found nothing useful on Heat Geek. I later used Google to search for useful information and it found a hidden page on Heat Geek. Capeesh?
