heating a transit

hi all my transit 2001 2 ltr will only heat for about 1 second before the heater light goes out, any suggestions

sorry steve i didnt say it was a diesel van so i suppose it could have meant anything heated mirrors seats windows etc, but yes i meant heater plugs!!

pop a test lamp on the heater plug feed and observe how long it stays on,it could be that the light goes out but the plugs still have their feed

probably the glow plug timer relay gone to pot

Had the use of a 2002 Transit, on which the plug light went out almost straight away. left a few seconds and started fine.

the heater plug light on the new generation (2000 onwards) transits is used as a malfunction indicator.

this is normal operation.

if it starts to flash, however, prepare to get out your cheque book!
