have had this problem for some time now. The radiators are heating sometimes even when the hall stat is on low setting ie off. I have checked operation of motor in mid port valve it seems to be working , but cannot check operation of the valve inside ...could it be broken ? or not shutting off ect ? the only time i cam get only the hot water system wotking on its own is when I switch off programmer for heating completely ie in off state.
this fault is obvioulsly costing me so like to get it sorted. perhaps i should change the midport valve and motor complete? any ideas please. Also my pump is always on even if boiler is off , is this signal derived from boiler ?

It sounds like your motorised valve or your wiring as you are able to turn off heating by operating programmer.

Did the system work ok at one time? Has any work been carried out on it?

As you have a pump problem this could support theory that wiring is at fault - but it could also be a boiler control fault or you could have an overheat fault which is keeping the pump operating.

What sort of control system do you have manufacturer and type if possible of programmer, three port valve also what boiler?

Hi, the problem of pump running continously has been ther since i moved in 2 years ago, but the other problem of heating rads when not req has been ther about 8 months now , there has not been any work done on system other than draining and refilling system.
The prgrammer is a potterton ep2000 , acl mid position valve and the boiler is a potterton netaheat electronic.
thanks for any advice.

As pump has always run continuously since you moved in I would first check wiring connection to pump it could be they are incorrct. Obviously it is getting a permanant feed from somewhere.

If not you need to check the boiler over-run pump circuit to make sure it is working ok. Next suspect would be a wiring short between a permanat live and the pump circuit either from bare wires touching or possibly incorrect cross connection at the wiring juction box.

Problem re heating valve not shutting off you say is relatively new but it sounds like incorrect wiring. Heating feed from programmer is switching correctly as heating works when programmer calls for heat and stops working when programmer swiches off.

So the heating feed when the programmer is calling for heat is not being correctly interrupted when the stat is satisfied. Could be a faulty stat - disconnect wiring to that to check. Otherwise you have really got to carry out a systemmatic check of the wiring looking for faults and backfeeds.

Is the boiler in a garage or outbuilding ? Check if you have a frost thermostat fitted which could be faulty or incorrectly set.

Are you sure this problem is new or is it soemthing that you just may not have spotted before.

Why was the system drained and by who?

hi , system ws drained by myself last year as i fitted a new rad in bathrom ie a replacement. also had inhibiter put in tank above .
does anyone have a wiring diagram for the system i mentioned please ?

any chance you have gravity hot water ?, I was thinking the need for an anti-gravity valve.

yes i have gravity hot water , but what is this vale you talkng about ? waht does it do and how does it relate to my problem please?
