I'm not sure if this has been covered before.

I have a Baxi Solo 2 boiler, a PTS Pump 5, and an ACL Lifestyle Mid Position Valve (22mm).

The valve is set to H (Heating).

When I turn on my heating, after a short while there is a loud bang from the valve, and the main heating fuse (3 amp) blows.

Also, on the last time I reset the system (turn off the boiler, and mains switch, put in new fuse, and turn on mains then boiler) - even though I had got the controller set to Hot Water only, the heating came on, and would not turn off, until I switched the boiler off - It totally ignored the controller and the heating thermostat.

Do you have any ideas on what the problem could be ?

I am starting to think that I have a broken/faulty Valve which needs replacing.

Just to add...I called out my plumber, and the system behaved perfectly (Sods Law).

I'd like to get this sorted in the summer months, when I don't need the heating.

Help !

From your description it certainly sounds as though the valve head has had it. Is there a water leak getting into the valve head somewhere? The only other random fault I can think of would be a loose wire in the wiring centre.

Thanks Dave.

The cupboard with the pump, valve and emersion heater is bone dry.

Do you think that getting a new valve is a good starting point ?

If so, would it benefit me to get the same make and model again, or go for a different one ?

I would think that it is just the valve head that is faulty, so assuming it is a make that can have just the head replaced I would go with this. its up to you whether you want to replace the entire valve, probably won't cost much more but will take you longer to replace, possibly having to drain down etc depending on your piping layout.
